Entertainment Cutbacks Will Divert Cash Advance Necessity

How far will you go to cut down your cable bill in order to make a monthly budget work? In order to avoid needing a cash advance at the end of the month, it makes sense to lower monthly costs.

The cable bill is a tough call for me. I don’t go out much, my entertainment takes place at home. How much should I actually be paying for this service? Of course, this answer is different for everyone as we all live in our own financial situation.

Would you lower your cable bill to cut out a cash advance?

How much do you pay each month? I know my bill is well over the so called average cost of $100. Does anyone remember when cable bills were less than $50? With the growth of new technology and an increase in channel options, the cable bill is no longer what it used to be.

I am struggling with lowering my own bill. My children and I have grown accustomed to having the convenience of hundreds of channels at our fingertips, even though we usually stick to the same 20 channels. Can I get all 20 channels in the same package? No I cannot, hence the high cable bill. I have to subscribe to a larger package just to keep us moderately entertained.

I pay extra for each box top per television. Do we need to have all the channels on every television in the house? That is what I address each month as I juggle money around in order to keep a cash advance out of my cable bill.

Now on towards my next dilemma. I am locked into a contract with my provider. It includes home phone, Internet and cable. The cancellation fee is big enough to deter me to change, but I am not sure how long I can or should keep paying towards such a high cost.

I started my cutbacks by getting rid of all movie channels with an extra cost. I replaced it with an Internet movie streaming company at a much lower monthly cost. First cut back done!

I would love to set up my home phone through my Internet so I can avoid another $30 a month, but since it is part of the cable bundle, I hesitate. The machine will cost me about $75 with shipping; maybe less if I catch a deal on a good day. In three months it will pay for itself.

I don’t want my Internet service to change. (Unless I change providers)

Once I research what else is out there for services and the costs for each, I will give my current provider a chance to lower my bill. If I can cut back in certain areas and get a discount on what remains, I will probably stay with them. I am not a fan of change if I don’t have to.

What I am a fan of is not spending any more money than I need to . I will cut back my cable bill and avoid a cash advance so I don’t have to spend the extra on fees.  It is my money. I want to use it cost effectively for my family.
